Couleurs du ciel
This is my first orchestral work. It was created in 2011 for a composition competition in which I won third prize from the jury and two audience prizes with this piece.
I had started working on this piece back in 2009 after seeing the movie "Avatar." When I heard about the composition competition in 2011, I decided to continue writing the piece I had started. The music reminded me of an approaching summer storm, and since the theme of the competition was "colors," I named the piece "Couleurs du Ciel" (Colors of the Sky).
At the beginning of the piece you can hear the animals of the forest sensing the threat of the approaching storm and rushing to their homes. Then a rumble of thunder sounds from the distance and individual raindrops fall from the sky. Suddenly there is a loud clap of thunder and the rain and wind become stronger and sweep across the landscape. But just as quickly as the storm came, it subsides again, leaving the forest in clean air. And as the last drops fall from the trees, the sun comes out from behind the clouds again and a beautiful rainbow appears in the sky and shines across the landscape in all colors.
The recording was made in London in 2012 with the London Spring Sinfonia under the direction of my brother Frederic Mörth.
