Atlantis
Plato's story of Atlantis is probably one of the most famous and at the same time most mysterious myths of all. He describes Atlantis as an island on the other side of the Atlantic that was very rich in raw materials and mineral resources. The Atlanteans were a very powerful and warloving people who, from their island, dominated the entire known world at the time, i.e. Europe, North Africa and parts of Asia. However, their greed for wealth and power also sealed their downfall, as they incurred the wrath of the gods. When Zeus saw the wickedness of the Atlanteans, descendents from the gods, he conjured up a powerful storm that destroyed the entire island "in a single day and one unfortunate night."
In this piece I have tried to emphasize the mystery of this legend. Nobody knows what Atlantis looked like or how the Atlanteans lived. And that's how the music is designed at the beginning: the main theme is an aimlessly rising melody that can be heard in different variations before a military campaign is initiated with great fanfare. In the midst of the greatest triumph, alarm bells suddenly start ringing. Then the huge storm breaks out in which the city and its residents are completely destroyed. At the end, like a memory, a death bell echoes through the silnece across the calm sea.
