A Song of Love

I wrote “A Song of Love” at the end of 2014 for a composition competition in the USA. As a text, I used excerpts from the Song of Solomon, a collection of love songs that highlight various aspects of love.

The piece was premiered at a wedding in 2018 and was heard in concert for the first time in 2019, sung by the Liedertafel Ensemble under my direction.

I came to the garden, my brother, my love,

I came to the garden, my sister, my beloved.

Awake, O north wind, and come, O south wind,

blow upon this garden, let its spices flow.

Eat, friends, and drink, and be drunk with love,

let her kiss me, let him kiss me, with the kisses of his/her mouth.

Behold, you are beautiful, bright as the sun.

Your eyes are doves behind your veil.

You are altogether beautiful, there is no flaw in you.

You have captivated my heart with one glance of your eyes.

Let me see your face, let me hear your voice,

my love, I love you.

My love, let me kiss you,

for I love you.
