The Angel's Appearance
Das Stück "The Angel's Apperance entstand 2014, wurde aber erst 2019 vom Landesjugenchor Rheinland-Pfalz unter meiner Leitung uraufgeführt. Die Aufnahme stammt von einem Konzert im Herbst 2019 in Buenos Aires, bei dem Jan Schumacher die Leitung innehatte.
Das Stück ist eine Vertonung der Bibelszene, in der der Engel den Hirten erscheint und Geburt Jesu verkündet. Dabei liegt der Fokus zunächst auf dem mysteriösen und Angst einflößenden Aspekt dieser Begegnung. Der Engel wird von zwei Solo-Sopranen gesungen und erhält dadurch eine unheimliche, außerirdische Klangfarbe.
Erst ganz am Ende des Stücks, beim Wort "peace" (Frieden) löst sich die Anspannung in einen wohlklingenden Dur-Dreiklang auf.
Lukas 2: 8-11, 13-14:
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby,
keeping watch over their flocks at night.
An angel of the Lord appeared to them
and the glory of the Lord shone around them
and they were terrified.
But the angel said to them:
Do not be afraid.
I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.
A saviour has been born to you, he is the Messiah, the Lord.
And suddenly a company of heavenly hosts appeared with the angel,
praising god and saying:
Glory to God in highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.
